The Zellner Brothers + Monkey = Delicious Mind Melting Dada Banana Filmcakes!

Our dear friends, David and Nathan Zellner have just completed a new series of short films titled “Fiddlestixx.” Watch the “videos” here: http://fiddlestixx.com/

Now we have questions for you, David Zellner!

1: Where did you get the monkey?

DZ: From a Texas-based animal trainer, that’s where most of the budget went, and that was also the impetus for the project. We heard there was an animal trainer in the area, I desperately wanted some quality time with a primate (both on and off camera), and so Fiddlestixx was born.

2: I noticed the “about me” page doesn’t say what kind of monkey Fiddlestix is? Makes me wonder, how well do you know your monkey?

DZ: Fiddlestixx is a young gibbon named Willis. Our quality time was actually very limited as he likes women much more than men, and the plan all along was to not impose any direction on him, let him do whatever the hell he wanted. He didn’t get cuddly until I gave him the greatest backrub ever.

3: Speaking of inappropriate touching. Did Fiddlestix ever try to bite your junk? I hear these guys do that sometimes.

DZ: Fortunately not, though I think once they hit puberty all bets are off. He did give Nathan and I a couple of love bites, but it was more endearing than painful.

4: Did Atom films commission you for this?

DZ: Yeah, a long time ago, and it got pushed back because of Goliath. Hopefully they’re not regretting it. We’ve retained rights to it, so if ever deemed Wholphin-worthy it’s all yours.

5: Are you going to Sundance?

DZ: I’d like to, but money and time aren’t allowing that to happen this year. We’re trying to get a feature off the ground with a real budget and so I’ve been preoccupied with that.

Thank you, my friend!

Wholphin Screening at ATA in San Francisco

Join us for the local celebration of the release of Wholphin No 7 and the Best of Wholphin Vol 1 at ATA this Saturday, January 10th. We will be spending the evening just a block down the street from our own office, screening a fresh assortment films that will include a documentary about England’s bloody war on the American grey squirrel, an early short film by Gus Van Sant based on a William S. Burroughs short story, a live, interactive scientific experiment in retroactive causality, and never-before-seen footage of the sun. Brent’s brother, Devin Hoff, (Xiu Xiu, Nels Cline Singers) will be performing as well, so come early!
