Wholphin at Wonder Cabinet
New Yorkers: Join editor Brent Hoff as he presents a selection of Wholphin films at Lawrence Weschler’s Wonder Cabinet this Saturday, February 21st at NYU’s Canter Film Center. In addition to a Jonathan Lethem reading, a marine biologist debunking octopus camouflage and a cultural historian explaining the origins of kindergarten, Brent Hoff will be screening Wholphin No 7′s The Even More Fun Trip, Fantaisie in Bubblewrap and Look at the Sun, with directors in attendance. Wholphin No 6′s New Boy nominated for Oscar
Director Steph Green’s heart-warming short film New Boy, which appears on Wholphin No. 6, has been nominated for a 2009 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film. The film, adapted from a Roddy Doyle short story from McSweeney’s Issue 18, follows a young African refugee as he struggles to find his place on the first day in a new school in Dublin.
