Directed by: Justin Kelly
Liner Notes:
I took a cinematography class one semester in college where we learned the wonders of 16mm film by working on group projects, which usually consisted of pans and tilts of meaningless subject matter. So, come the final project whereby larger groups would contribute to the work and costs of a short film I said, ‘Hey, what if I wrote and directed ours? And what if it were about this stewardess named Katy who fell from her plane only to awake in some bizarre dimension taken over by other fallen stewardesses? And what if she ran into the others and they remembered her from some flight only she couldn’t remember a thing because that fall was a bitch? Well, then they would obviously take her on a psychedelic bike ride to their favorite beach hangout and eat apples, which is such a relief because Katy was STARVING. Then the head stewardess and pilot would most likely come and try to take Katy back because she was such a good stewardess but NO! her friends would tell her to run and so she escapes to find solace in a boat by the sea.’ My group was totally like, ‘Umm, whatever, as long as we get an A.’
Biography:
Justin Kelly grew up in a lovely suburb called Canyon Country where he began making short films in high school. After working on productions in Los Angeles for a few years he moved to San Francisco to complete film school once and for all. Not terribly excited by the in-class exercises, he began directing music videos on the side before completing a few short films, one of which, Debris, has just begun its stroll on the festival circuit. He’s currently in post-production on his [years in the making] thesis film, Front.
